Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe owners are looking for answers about a serious high-voltage hybrid battery fire hazard linked to two NHTSA recalls 24V720000 and 24E080000. Previous software fixes that were designed to find damaged batteries have repeatedly failed, and at the time of this article, fires are still occurring, and there is no fix.

Jeep Wrangler 4xe: 2021-2025
Grand Cherokee 4xe: 2022-2025
2025 is the final model year for these vehicles. Citing shifts in customer demand, Stellantis announced earlier this year that it will discontinue the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid for 2026.

Is it safe to drive or charge my Jeep Wrangler 4xe or Grand Cherokee 4xe at home?
According to the above recall notices, owners of the 2021-2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe, and the 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe are being instructed to park the jeep outside, and away from all structures. These vehicles should not have their high voltage batteries charged either, until checked out by dealership personnel, as the charged batteries could either catch fire while driving or parked.
Stelantis is recommending vehicles remain parked outside and away from structures, and to refrain from charging these vehicles until a repair is available. Notification letters were mailed out January 28, 2025. Chrysler refers to this recall as 96B. As of early 2026, this recall has been superseded by recall 25V741000, with the same description and remedy.

Engine Casting Sand Contamination Recall
On November 6, 2025 NHTSA released recall notice 25V766000, for 2023-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and 2024-2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe concerning an engine failure may cause fire or loss of drive power. You can read the full NHTSA recall notice here.
This recall notice state that in over 112,000 vehicles, there may be residual debris inside the engine compartment from the manufacturing process that could cause engine failure, leading to power loss and engine compartment fire. NHTSA states there is no remedy available at this time.
Letters from the manufacturer were sent to consumers in late 2025. Chrysler refers to this recall as 78C.
Software Malfunctions and Sudden Power Loss Recall
On October 17, 2025, the NHTSA released recall notice 25V710000, which addresses Loss of Drive Power from Over the air software update. This software update may increase the risk of crash for 2023-2025 Jeep Wrangler 4XEs. You can read the full NHTSA recall notice here.
At this time there is no remedy for this serious issue. Recall notice letters were sent to customers at the end of 2025. There may be follow up letters once a fix is available.
