Summary: Ram 1500 and 1500 Classic EcoDiesel model years 2014 – 2019 that are equipped with the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engines have an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler that’s prone to cracking. Hairline cracks allow vaporized coolant to enter the engine and catch on fire inside the intake manifold.
About the Ram 1500 and 1500 Classic EcoDiesel Pickup Recall
In October 2019, Chrysler (FCA US LLC) recalled certain 2014 – 2019 Ram 1500 and 1500 Classic Pickup trucks equipped with 3.0L EcoDiesel engines due to the EGR defect. The trucks’ coolers are susceptible to thermal fatigue (fatigue failure with macroscopic cracks resulting from cyclic thermal stresses and strains due to temperature changes). These internal cracks could lead to a loss of power and in some cases catch on fire.
The problem with that recall is that it allegedly failed to remedy the issue. As a result, a class action lawsuit was filed against the automaker. According to the plaintiffs, FCA has “completely failed its customers by continuing its pattern of putting profits over safety,” with the “botched” EGR cooler recall. (Source: class-action.org.)
The Problem with Class Action Lawsuits
As we have mentioned in previous articles, the problem with a class action lawsuit is that they mostly benefit the lead plaintiff or plaintiffs, and the attorneys. In addition, class action suits take a long time to settle because of the complex procedures involved, sometimes years.
Filing a lemon law case against an automobile manufacturer instead of joining a class action means that you are not stuck with having to wait a few years for a settlement, or settle for a few hundred dollars, or get coupons, rebates, or a small amount of money “towards the purchase” of a new vehicle that may have the same problems.
In some states, a class action may be your only option for seeking any remedies for lemon vehicles. For California residents, contacting the California Lemon Law Group BEFORE you opt into (or do not opt out of) a class action is your best option for the best possible solution to your lemon car problem!

Car generations refer to the life cycle of a design. Most years within a generation share the same parts and manufacturing process, so they may also share the same problems.
